In his introduction to this song, Jimmy Martin says he hasn’t heard anyone else do it and, of all his tenor singers, there were only two who could. Audie Blaylock, who joins him here, was one; Paul Williams was the other.

The intricate arrangement is designed to keep singers on their toes, that’s for sure. As much as I love Paul Williams, I think Blaylock turns in the better performance. Maybe it’s being on stage that gives him the extra fire.

In any case, here are Jimmy Martin, Audie Blaylock, and the rest of the Sunny Mountain Boys with “Stormy Waters”.
