Ah, record companies! Here’s a little something about the session that produced this recording, from “The Music of Bill Monroe”, Rosenberg/Wolfe:
“The session, Carter’s last with the band, provides the only evidence of two of bluegrass music’s great voices working together at the peak of their powers. Decca was not especially impressed with the pairing, though, and scattered the four numbers on singles that were unreleased for a year.”
Maybe it’s just 20/20 hindsight that makes me think the suits at Decca were prize idiots, but I doubt very seriously that the fans of these two great singers would have agreed with the Decca brass – then or now.
