Where do I even start with a performance this good, with a band this good?

How about Del McCoury’s unsung and underrated guitar picking? His articulation is clean and precise without being sterile, and his economy of motion is astounding.

I could say the same about son Ronnie’s bluesy mandolin, adding that, as technically-gifted as he is, Ronnie McCoury never overplays. Whether he’s expanding the boundaries of bluegrass with The Travelin’ McCourys, or playing the most traditional tunes with his dad’s band, Ronnie knows exactly how much to add — no more, no less.

Then, there’s the fact that this outfit keeps the blues in bluegrass, with both their pickin’ and their singin’.

This is as good as it gets: The Del McCoury Band with “Get Down On Your Knees and Pray”.
