You know the version from O, Brother, Where Art Thou? of course. This one, by The Stanley Brothers, actually dares to imagine that the lyrics might mean something less ... madcap.

This was not the first time the Stanleys recorded this number, and it would not be the last. It was, however, the best. Ralph meant every word of this performance. He must have known people like this. He and Carter must have felt exactly like this on the road, trying to make it in the early days of bluegrass.
