The Travelin’ McCourys "Cumberland Blues"

The Grateful Dead under Jerry Garcia were big bluegrass fans (Garcia himself was a banjo player) -- better fans than musicians, it turns out. So, it's a real pleasure to hear one of the Dead's tunes reimagined by one of the most technically-dazzling bluegrass bands working today.

These are The Travelin' McCourys (think The Del McCoury Band minus Del, and plus Cody Kilby on guitar) with The Grateful Dead's "Cumberland Blues". That dizzying instrumental coda is a decidedly hopped-up version of one of Flatt and Scruggs' famous banjo tunes, "Cumberland Gap".
