Somebody-or-other once wrote that, "Youth is wasted on the young," and that might have been part of The Easybeats' problem. The far more likely source was "the star-making machinery/Behind the popular song," as Joni Mitchell put it.
Whatever the reasons behind The Easybeats' mind-boggling lack of success, I came away from this Australian documentary frustrated that their tremendous promise had been squandered.
Then, too, I feel not a little lingering sadness, considering the skill level of so many other, more successful bands of the time. These kids deserved better, and their songs deserve to be brought forward into the 21st century.
