Tuning Is Hard

The version that Rod Stewart and friends did for MTV Unplugged is frankly awful (Guys, what's the fascination with de-tuning? It's not quite authentic.)

Now that I hear it again after so long, much of the instrumental backing on the studio version doesn’t sound much better. Seriously, guys, if hill folk can do it, so can you. But, this song, this song!

Rod Stewart with Martin Quittenton on mandolin, and “Mandolin Wind”.

Side note: The consensus is that Bruce Hornsby was influenced by this track to write “Mandolin Rain”.
