Why /Always Been A Rambler/ Is Still Important Today

When the trailer is this exciting, you know the movie has got to be good! What’s funny is, this movie is a documentary, filmed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of The New Lost City Ramblers.

And?

And, if you are even remotely interested in the history, the origins, the preservation, the continuation of American folk music, string band music, and bluegrass, you have these guys to thank. Each one of them is a multi-instrumentalist and a musicologist, an historian, a songcatcher, a champion of American vernacular music and, in two cases, a filmmaker.

Without their tireless efforts on behalf of then-obscure, regional musicians, the rest of us would never have heard of Roscoe Holcomb, Dock Boggs, Bascom Lamar Lunsford, Bill Monroe … and the list goes on.

A parade of today’s bluegrass and old-time musicians, from Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn to Del McCoury and Ricky Skaggs to The Carolina Chocolate Drops, is on hand to testify to the staggering impact that The New Lost City Ramblers have had on our music.

If after this, you decide you’d like to buy the movie, don’t follow the link on screen; it’s dead.

Here’s the link to the Amazon product page.
