If there’s ever an appropriate outlet for Christmas tripe, it’s the mouths of kids, for whom Christmas often serves as a metaphor for the painfully-real fears and hopes they face during the rest of the year.

Such is the case with Lisa Martin, here with her dad, Jimmy, recreating a song they recorded when she was a much younger kid. She sings:

Daddy, will Santa Claus
Ever have to die,
Like my mama did
When she left you and I?

Indeed, Jimmy and Barbara Martin did divorce. Jimmy won custody of their four children.

With the caution that knowing about someone is nowhere near the same as knowing her, I will say that Lisa Martin, who is a Facebook friend of mine, seems pretty well adjusted. She’s a psychologist, happily married with kids, and a great champion of her father’s legacy. What’s more, her mother, Barbara, is a welcome and regular part of her life.

With a happy ending like that, ole Santa can kick the bucket any time.

This is Jimmy and Lisa Martin with “Daddy, Will Santa Claus Ever Have To Die?”
